Cracked Engine Block Repair

Jan 2023

After degreasing in preperation for rebuild of this 1969 R69US, I noticed a crack in the rear mount of the block. To prevent his engine from falling out while riding, we clamped and tack-welded the end groove to ensure the right dimensions were preserved. We cut a deeper V-groove along the crack to ensure properly deep penetration of the weld. We ground the excess weld to the original shape, sanded out our marks, then painstakingly peened the area with punch and hammer, as well various other shop instruments, to recreate the original the cast look. Being as this part would likely never be seen, we thought we did a pretty good job.
